Every script starts on one screen: What are we writing today? You describe the video in a line or two, choose which parts of your Creator DNA to write from, and compose walks you through four steps: Brief, Research, Outline and Write.

Describe the video

Open Scripts in the sidebar and choose Generate script. In the prompt, describe your video idea and what viewers should walk away with. A sentence is enough. More detail (your angle, a story you want to tell, a point you must make) gives the brief less to ask about.

The new script page: Lena’s morning routine idea attached to the prompt, the format and Research controls, her channel, profile, voice and template, and four ideas to start from.

Already wrote the idea down? Pick it under Start from an idea, which shows your four newest ideas, or type / in the prompt. It’s attached to the prompt, and you can still type a line of your own beside it. See Turn an idea into a script.

Pick your DNA and format

Under the prompt are four pickers: Channel, Profile, Voice and Template. Picking a channel fills in its default profile and voice, and you can swap either. The template is optional. Each one makes the script more yours: the voice sets the pacing and phrasing, the profile sets who you’re talking to, and the template sets the structure. If you have none of one kind yet, its picker links you to create one.

The two icons at the start of the bar under the prompt set the format: Long-form video (the default) or Short-form video. Hover them to see which is which. For Shorts, see Write a Short.

Research, beside the format, sets whether compose plans to search the web before the outline. It starts off, and you can change your mind at the Research step either way. Paste links into the prompt and research turns on and stays on: the first three links become reference links the research must read. See Research and sources.

Start compose

  1. Press the arrow button (Generate script), or Cmd+Enter on a Mac (Ctrl+Enter elsewhere).
  2. Compose opens on the first step. See Answer the brief.

Rather write it yourself? Choose New script on the Scripts page for a blank editor.

Compose runs on our servers, so you can close the tab and come back. Your progress is waiting where you left it.

Credits. A full script costs about 17 credits with research, or 15 without: 1 for the brief, 2 for research, 2 for the outline, and 8 to write plus 4 to polish the draft. See How credits work.
